Format: 20 cm × 31 cm
Pages: 310
Copies: 8
Printer: AR printing, Tel Aviv
Publisher: student project at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Self-Publishing

Jury ‘s comment:

This book follows the career and work of Charlie Megira, an Israeli rock musician. In doing so, it creates a window into a vibrant, wild culture brimming not only with Rock and Roll but also with Israeli spirit. Many of the snotty pictorial and typographical elements, are borrowings from the flyer culture of the time, embodying the atmosphere of the era. This book brings one very close to so-called Israeli Elvis Presley.

Jury ‘s comment:

More than the actual content of this book, which is about exhibitions of state art collections in Dresden, this work is about space. The question at the heart of this book is how space, audience and time change the character of a work of art. For this purpose, the book shows historical and contemporary works in various states and spaces. This investigation of space and context is also continued in the layout of the book, which is notable not only for its narrow, long form, but also by a strict division that separates the book in the middle and creates a remarkable visual effect.

The Remarkable Rocket
Oskar Wilde
Design: Stepan Lipatov (design)
Svetlana Shuvaeva (illustration)
Format: 22 cm × 29 cm
Pages: 72
Copies: 1000
Printer: Cityprint, Moscow
Publisher: V–A–C Press
ISBN: 978-5-907183-06-3

Jury ‘s comment:

The narration of the Remarkable Rocket is written by the famous author Oscar Wilde, while its illustrative style recalls the aesthetic language of the Russian Constructivists. The Remarkable Rocket makes full use of the children’s book as a visual medium, creatively using its typography to vividly enhance its story. The cover of the book is characterised by cardboard as a material, which in its slightly abbreviated form reveals a deliberate flash of colour of the endpapers and thus the first little “firecracker” of the story.

Jury ‘s comment:

The redesign of a railway station may seem drab to the layman, but this piece succeeds in approaching the topic in a very lively and unusual way. The book makes use of contrasting materials and styles: from the incorporation of Swiss brochures and printing experiments to high-quality technical drawings. The vivid visual language is complemented by clean, pleasant typography. This book provides a new perspective on modern building history and technology.

Jury ‘s comment:

A clear concept permeates the entire publication: one city, two realities converging in one point. The book combines elements of different crafts. Structured like an exhibition catalogue, the typography is nevertheless strongly reminiscent of poetry. Contemporary illustrations contrast with old copper engravings. The two-part character of this work is crowned by the integration of an app that allows the viewer to call up superimposed 3D images from within the book.
