What a lucky bag!?!

Unboxing the giant package, wrapped in a giant furoshiki cloth (a traditional gift-wrapping in Japan), you unveil three boxes, each containing 15 small books. It is the anniversary collection: A 100 years of Doraemon.

Doraemon is an earless robotic cat, who travels back in time from the 22nd century to aid a boy. This popular Japanese Manga series was written and illustrated by Fujiko F. Fujio and published by Shogakukan from 1970 to 1996, followed by numerous animated extensions for television and film. The Doraemon character has been viewed as a Japanese cultural icon and was appointed as the first “anime ambassador” in 2008 by the country’s Foreign Ministry.

All volumes have hardback covers, bound in the series first cloth and are screen printed in silk, which incorporates gold leaf. The thread-bound makes turning the pages of these small booklets extremely enjoyable, the paper is high-quality and the printing more than perfect. The abundance of high-quality bound editions makes the heart of every anime fan beat faster. But even “non-specialist” readers are magically drawn to the collection. Even the playful and high-quality typographical design of the spines, which jump out of the collection boxes, have a special aura.

Inside you find nice spot colour, great visual researched details, an index (of all characters of the Doraemon universe), so everything can be found easily, and of course great manga artwork.

This is truly the incarnation of a proper collectible item. No discussion – the jury liked A 100 years of Doraemon – very much!
