Arita is a small village in Japan known for its ceramics, and it’s where 1616 / arita japan still produces its beautiful porcelain today. The book shows the simplicity, precision and love with which those products are made, and offers an aesthetic exploration of tradition and fine tableware.
A talented Danish design team has created a perfect hardcover book featuring beautifully chosen materials, with a cloth binding and coloured edges, technically precise and sophisticated printing, first-class repro work and excellent typography. The quality of the photographs is reproduced on uncoated paper. The accompanying watercolour illustrations, in which 16 artists give playful takes on the most famous plate from the 1616 / TY “Standard” series, are a delicate addition to the overall design and lend it a special touch.
